Johnson and Newgard compete in National Championships in Shreveport

Two of Midwest Weightlifting athletes competed at the 2006 National Championships in
Shreveport, LA - August 10-12. Jake Johnson placed 3rd overall in the 69 kg category in his
first national meet as a 69 kg. He made a 3 for 3 performance in the snatch finishing with
117kg. He made 140 in the C&J for a 257kg total. He is just coming off his performance in
May where he lifted in the 2006 World Junior Championships in Hangzhou, China.
Johnson's performance there was down due to a muscle strain in his back that occurred 2
weeks before the competition. He finished 20th with a 242 kg total, 12kg below his best
result as a 62kg. competitor.
Vance Newgard competed in the +105 kg category and finished 6th with a 318 kg total.
Vance snatched 137 and had a 181 kg C&J.
